Setting The Standard

We already comply with the stringent ADIPS (Amusement Device Inspection Procedure Scheme), which is the Health and Safety Executives recommended inspection scheme for funfair attractions, but from the start of February we are taking things a step further by combining the Portable Appliance Testing (commonly known as PAT) scheme with the ADIPS scheme.

We have had the majority of our equipment and power cables PAT tested for the last couple of years. However a desire to exceed the current safety requirements, and actually set the standard, has led to the purchase of our own electrical testing equipment, followed by training for key members of staff.

As a result we now have the procedures in place to test all of our equipment and power cables at least every six months, with a view to increasing the frequency of this testing as more members of staff are qualified to undertake PAT testing. Additionally we have purchased RCD testing equipment allowing us to regularly test the safety devices fitted to much of the equipment we operate.

As a final initiative, we have added a number of in line RCD devices to our equipment reserves, this will allow us to provide additional protection to our attractions when we are operating inside older buildings and events venues. Our portable generators are already fitted with protection devices of this type, which again will receive regular audited testing to ensure that we have no compromises when it comes to ensuring the safety of our equipment.

Fairtrade Announcement

From 26 October 2007, our catering operation will begin to change over to stocking only (where possible) Fairtrade products. It is only a small gesture, but one where even individuals can help make a difference to the sustainability of third world development. We will be the first Northern based fairground operator to take this step. Our candy floss barrows are already stocking only fairtrade sugar, our coffee barrows have switched to fairtrade beans, and will be stocking only fairtrade sugar after their current supplies are exhausted. In any future purchasing decisions, preferance will be given to Fairtrade alternatives, if they are available. Additionally we will be stocking all of our carts with information leaflets and literature about the Fairtrade movement, and when running larger events, preference will be given to other operators who stock Fairtrade goods. After 2008 we will only allow Fairtrade friendly operators to attend our events.

Catering Expansion

We are currently involved in a promotion for the designer clothing label, One True Saxon.
One of our small shooting galleries has been branded up in the OTS logo and is operating at music festivals throughout the country dispensing branded goods and cloths as prizes.

Helter Skelter Offers Continued

Due to the success of our recent helter skelter special offer, we are now running another offer. Our square helter skelter can be booked for any event taking place in september-december for the special price of Â£599 in the North East and Yorkshire regions, but it must be booked before the end of August.

JARM Amusements chosen as entertainments supplier for 2007 Trinity College Ball

We were selected to provide amusements for this years first and third Trinity College May Ball in Cambridge, the largest and most prestigious college event in the UK. For the first time in over 15 years a major ride was allowed in the college grounds when we presented a full size dodgem track.

A number of supporting attractions including swing boats and games units were also provided.

Helter Skelter Special Offer

Corporate charity

Candy Floss Crazy , the party and wedding offshoot of Jason AR Moody Amusements have chosen a breast cancer charity as their corporate charity for this year. We will be selling special pink ribbon tubs of candy floss with 25% of the price going to charity. Additionally where possible we will be attending charity events with our candy floss carts again with 25% of the turnover going to charity.

World Rowing Championships

JARM Amusements have been chosen to provide a family funfair to the World Rowing Championships 2006.

Being held at Dorney Lake near Eton, this is the first time the event has been held in this country in over 20 years. Host to almost 2000 atheletes from 75 nations the event is one of the most prestigious we have been invited to participate in this season.

Fairground Accident

The funfair industry has the best safety record of any passenger carrying industry in the U.K. Although extremely rare accidents unfortunately do happen (no industry has a zero accident record although that is what we must all strive for). Over the weekend at a park in the Manchester area a young girl was injured on a waltzer ride.

The cause of the accident has not been made known as yet, but the injured girl was trapped underneath the moving platform of the ride and suffered two broken legs but here injuries are not life threatening.

The Yorkshire Carnival

JARM Amusements have been chosen to provide the supporting attractions at the Yorkshire Carnival. The event is set to be one of the biggest in the region on the weekend of the 22nd and 23rd of July the event is designed to raise money for both the Round Table Children's Wish charity and the Kirsty Appeal.

Additionally we will be operating on the Friday night with a special free funfair for in aid of the Round table charity.

PR And Marketing for Aston Carnival

We've managed to arrange a dedicated PR and marketing assistant for Aston Children's Carnival. Mary Ferguson, a media studies graduate, has agreed to help out at the charity event by organising and undertaking the role of a PR officer.

Historic Gallopers Severely Damaged In Arson Attack

Harris Bros. 140 year old carousel has been badly damaged in what was believed to be an arson attack at at a West Sussex fairground. Fire crews called to market square, Petworth on Friday 18th November and managed to prevent the blaze spreading to any other attractions. Attacks like this on original vintage equipment are tragic, they are part of the fairground heritage and once gone cannot be replaced.

Children In Need

We are attending 2 children in need events on 19 November. They are both hosted at Noah's Ark Childrens Nurseries. The first in the village of Dodworth and the second at Barnsley town centre. Held from 11 am to 4pm there will be games and rides as well as catering units and inflatables.

New Charity Event Ripon Racecourse

We've been approached to supply a small funfair in support of a new charity event at Ripon Racecourse. Starting at 10am and continuing until the firework finale at 7pm, the event hopes to host up-to 100 local charities and raise as much as possible for good causes.

MicroFormats

We have changed all of the coming events data on our website to include microformats, these allow software such as Apple's iCAl to automatically read and store the data in the event listing, whilst still leaving it perfectly readable onscreen.
Events posted on our blog will similarly contain microformat data.

New Event In Ripon North Yorks

Landmark For Fairground Heritage Trust

Saturday September 24th saw a landmark in the annals of the Fairground Heritage Trust. The first turf of the site for the new Fairground Museum was cut before invited guests and visitors. Numerous fairground exhibits have formed part of the Dingles Steam Museums displays for a number of years, now hopefully they can be housed in their own purpose built building to ensure their long term survival as a part of our heritage and history.

Wateraid Charity Event
