The helter skelter we acquired at the beginning of last season was meant to be refurbished through the summer. Due to the unforeseen increase in corporate work we just didn't get the time, however we have taken advantage of a spare week we found to get back into the rebuild, pictured below is a photo of the new front, along with a copy of the ride the first time we erected it.

When all of the new risk assessment and fire regulations came into force, we complied with them virtually immediately. For the next few years I don't think a single person, local authority or fire officer bothered asking to look at them, and I complained more than once about the wasted effort we put into preparing them. Not any more, all of the events we have booked for this summer have seen us inundated with requests for risk assessments etc. At one event we sent folders containing assessments and insurance/test documents to the event organisers, the local council, the county council, fire chief, local police station and the event insurers!

In fact looking at the number of bookings we are now taking we have just invested in an industrial binding machine capable of binding upto 500 pages at a time, this will enable us to produce professional looking documents in the quantities we are going to be needing them in.

Sugar, wether from a beet or a cane is a chemically identical product. There isn't much to differentiate different brands, its pretty much all the same colour, shape, taste etc. I have however discovered something strange. When producing candy floss, Silver Spoon Sugar produces about 5% more floss, than any other brand I have used. Additionally it produces a denser floss that doesn't seem to fly around so much making a mess. If anyone can throw some light on the reason I would be glad to hear it.

Last year brought a big upturn in the corporate side of our business. This was a trend which I didn't think could continue, but I was wrong! So far this year (Jan-Feb) we have had around a 20 fold increase in enquiry's for our services. Although I realise that every enquiry will not be translated into firm orders, we have had enough confirmed bookings to almost double the amount of corporate work from last season. If only a quarter of our enquiries become orders we will have tripled our workload.

In an attempt to keep ahead of the field, we are putting the procedures into place to gain ISO9001 accreditation. I did think at first it was a phenomenal amount of paperwork, but we are gradually getting used to the precedures, and I have found that the audit trail this standard produces is a help in dealing with this huge upturn in work.
