A few posts ago I talked about the situation a group of showmen are in who are being taken to court for occupying a plot of land they own. I've just heard that the case has finished and the Showmen have been given 4 weeks to vacate the site, if they do not the men will be jailed (so much for equality). The council has indicated that they are willing to put the families up in bed and breakfast, which defies logic, the showmen own the site, they wish to develop it themselves at no cost to the tax payer and then pay rates on it, et the council would rather pay to house them in bed and breakfast.

I believe both the Nazi's and Communist Russia tried similar schemes to 'absorb' communities (at least in the early days)
